lighted path

I always felt like an outsider,
peering into the panes of
Frosted windows,
Hiding in the quiet.
Everything hushed.
The whispers
of my broken heart
crying out
for someone
to hold the pieces
and handle them with care.
I just wanted to belong there
among the crowd,
on the widened walkway
before me.
But I didn’t belong there.
I needed the narrow road.
The road less traveled,
where love surrounds you
and light leads the way
and it lightens your load.
I needed to enjoy
the warmth of the sun
and peace
amidst the lilies in the valley,
refreshed by a living well.
No longer hiding
but finally belonging.
