My daughter
stares
at her fingers
as they bend,
point,
and reach
for the unknown.
Her eyes intense,
studying
every movement.
With each flicker
of the wrist–
something new.
She discovers
dimpled knuckles
and long, chubby fingers
holding up little,
mommy-bitten fingernails.
Though she’s small,
to her,
her hands are big,
and the world–
even bigger.
And she wants
to conquer it
all.
