Earlier this month, I was browsing Twitter and found a link to a great post by Emily Freeman on how she keeps track of the things she’s learning. I’ve always done this without any real method to it. So I thought it was really helpful. However, I also found out she shared the things she learned in a linkup on her blog every month. I thought it was such a great idea that I wanted to do it too. This way, I can share all the great things I come across, without writing an entire post about them.

what I learned - feb

Here’s what I learned over the last month:

The power of generosity is amazing! A Michigan man who walked 21 miles to work received a car and $350k, thanks to a college student starting a crowd-funding campaign.

Some in the mainstream modeling world are embracing women who do not look like the women traditionally featured. Actress Jamie Brewer became the first model with Down Syndrome to walk at New York Fashion Week. Meanwhile Robyn Lawley, a size 12, is in the editorial section of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and the size 14 Ashley Graham is appearing in an ad inside the magazine for Swimsuits For All, a company that sells swimsuits for sizes 8 to 34.

I miss being in TV news more than I thought I would. I found myself going off in full-on producer mode while my mother-in-law and I watched the two Mississippi news stations on Breaking Greenville.

I am in love with my new bill binder.  When I was searching online for different ways to organize bills, budgets, and other pertinent information, I came across a blog post about creating a bill binder. My binder is a bit different from the one featured in the post, but it perfectly suits our family’s needs. Now I don’t know why I didn’t come up with the idea myself.

Mincing and mashing vegetables, and mixing them with rice is a great way to get my picky eater to eat more than meat and cheese.

The bond between a mother and child is like no other, and God continues to make me familiar with ways to enhance it — from breastfeeding to the traditions of elimination communication that are popular in other countries. I’m currently researching elimination communication and how to look for cues like those we’re taught to look for when a child is hungry or sleepy. I’m hoping it prepares me for the time when M is ready to potty train. It takes a lot of work and I still don’t have it down, but I think there’s such beauty in being in tune with your child’s needs and being able to respond to their cues.

And I learned to see the meaning of these words in my life:

  • From Christine Caine, Propel Women –

“You can only minister to others to the degree you allow God to minister to you.”

  • From the sermons on Ephesians 3:19-21 by Richard D. Phillips, author and Pastor of Second Presbyterian Church-Greenville, SC –

When Christians are filled with the fullness of God, the attributes of God increasingly mold us into God-like people, and they shape the way our hearts express themselves through our minds, affections, and our wills.

“Light shines through the mind to warm the heart.”

Never doubt God. He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we can ask or think, according to the power within us.

“Expect great things from God. Do great things for God.”

“God calls us to live differently from the status quo. He keeps pointing above the fray and to higher ground; a better way.”

  1. O I am so glad that you found this link up over at Emily’s place and joined in! It’s my favorite monthly link up and it helps me to remember what I learned! 😉 So – with a couple of references to Greenville, I am thinking maybe you live there? I attended Allume there a couple of years ago and I fell in love with the city! It’s gorgeous and one day… one day I hope to be back! Glad we are neighbors over at Emily’s today! Here’s to all we learned in February, and all the good stuff that March holds!
